Collect Oracle Database usage

The Oracle Database collector is a script, data_collection.sql, not the Licenseware Collector agent. It gathers the usage Oracle Database Manager reads: database version, instance configuration, feature usage, and options and management packs.

The file it writes is named from the host and the database, and ends in _lware_collector.csv. Unlike Review Lite, the file is raw data for Licenseware to ingest, not a report you read yourself. It includes feature usage from DBA_FEATURE_USAGE_STATISTICS. Upload that file to the Licenseware Oracle Collector source. That source is listed on Data sources.

Request the script from support@licenseware.io. Running it needs SYSDBA on the database server.

  1. Copy data_collection.sql to the database server.
  2. Log in as the oracle user, not root.
  3. From the directory that holds the script, start sqlplus / as sysdba.
  4. Run @data_collection.sql.
  5. Take the output file and upload it.

If sqlplus / as sysdba will not connect, you are not the oracle user. If the script cannot spool the file, the oracle user cannot write to that directory. If SQL*Plus says the script is not found, change to the directory that contains it before you start.

The Licenseware Collector agent, for general hardware and software inventory, is documented at licenseware-collector.com.
