Oracle Effective License Position

Oracle Effective License Position is the comparison: what you own, from the entitlements baseline, against what the databases require. A negative compliance figure is the shortfall. A product you own and do not deploy is not a saving until you know you can drop it.

Open it from Apps, then Oracle Database Manager, on the Reports tab.

Oracle Effective License Position at a glance, with device counts and compliance by product and metric

  • ELP Overview is the number of devices and databases in the comparison.
  • Virtual vs Physical and Devices by Operating System show where those databases sit. The virtual count is only as good as Infrastructure Mapper.
  • Compliance By Product And Metric splits the result by Named User Plus and Processor. A positive figure is a surplus. A negative figure is a shortfall, and the license cost on that row is the exposure.

Unknown on the virtualization split is a system whose virtualization state could not be determined. Soft partitioning and hard partitioning are not the same Oracle rule, so an unknown host is not a compliant host. Operating system is there so you can see where a product is concentrated.

Oracle Compliance Table is the position: product, processor owned, NUP owned, processor required, processors covered by the NUP minimum, processor compliance, NUP compliance, license level, active support, and the license cost on each metric.

Oracle Server Worksheet is the server behind a row: whether it is capped, the device and virtual device, virtualization, database, environment, options and management packs in use, version, the metric allocated, licenses in use, server and CPU model, processors, cores, threads, operating system, and whether it is a RAC server or database.

The Oracle compliance table and server worksheet

The position uses processor counts, virtualization, hardware topology, option usage, core factors and capping. The result for each product is compliant, under-licensed or over-licensed. The figures in the compliance table are the uploaded entitlements, so you can trace a quantity back to the file.

Oracle Server Worksheet follows the Oracle Server Worksheet layout used in an audit or a declaration: the database on its host, the metric (usually Processor), and the packs and options on that instance, such as Diagnostics Pack, Active Data Guard and Advanced Compression. The evidence for Used, Historical, Verify and Not Used is the same sample detail as Oracle Database Usage: feature and source file, detected uses against total samples, the licensing note, and the sample period.

The owned quantities come from the Oracle entitlements in License and Contracts Manager. The requirement comes from Oracle Database Consolidated.

Download on an aggregated table saves one row per device, with the user. See Using reports.
